ethereal lace

I had promised to show you my inspired piece from the tba collection, but I am having mild computer issues. Instead I thought I would share a recent thrift-find...

I love the layering of this dress, although it is quite transparent despite the slip. Think I'm going to need to find another less see-through slip to replace it with before I can wear it, other than that its lovely.

I really need to be getting on and writing my dissertation, but at the moment it's procrastination time. I annoy myself! This weekend I'm going to take a little break from work so I can be fresh eyed and bushy tailed starting Monday (this, however, is the way of the procrastinator, always planning things for another day).

Hmmm, I might even make more pumpkin pie, I love October activities.

Right I'm actually going to be productive now. Have a beautiful weekend.

oh alexa...

So this is a super late ode to Alexa for Madewell, but better late than never right?

Partly, I just like this image, what lovely green grass and glorious daisies. But no, really this dress is just amazing. Black velvet and a beautiful peter pan collar. It is quite special. So sad, I wish there was Madewell in the UK. A little bird told me we were going to get Forever 21 over here, is this a good thing? I hear it's kind of like a Primark/ New Look hybrid, could be interesting. Definitely curious!

I previously posted about sewing an inspired tba velvet dress (its all about velvet dresses and collars at the moment for me if you hadn't already noticed!). The dress is finished and I shall be posting some pretty pics tomorrow once I've cleared some space from my camera.

favourite things post...window boxes

At the moment I am in love with window boxes, crazy I know, I really must be having a somewhat late/ early spring phase...

sooo pretty, especially this last one. I know it's more of just a box, but it gives me hope that you don't need a special window for it, maybe I could get a flower basket instead...hmmm

Alexandra Grecco Spring 2011

I know it's pretty early to be writing about Spring 2011 but I already feel inspired by this beautiful Alexandra Grecco film for next year. It's ethereal magic is absolutely darling.

dress inspired by tba...

So the tba dress on the left is my favourite piece in the A/W10 collection and I am determined to make a dress using this as inspiration.

This weekend I went back to my home town and bought my fabric and thread (which I have left at the boys, so no pics I'm afraid!) and I even have a pattern with a yoke design element in it which is perfect.

My only problem is the pattern I have is a size too small for me so I'm going to be spending the next few weeks attempting to alter it to fit me. Wish me luck! I shall be updating again very shortly with how this project is going!

Recent finds...

So here's a little update of my recent finds and current sewing project.....

a beautiful peter-pan collar dress and not to mention my new mannequin

cute buckle shoes from Vintage at Goodwood....

and finally this bundle of red and white polka dots is my current project. Believe it or not this is a sixties dress that I have a few plans for. It is in a slight state of disrepair so I'm going to give it some tlc and see what the end result is.

Dear Creatures AW

I know lots of bloggers have covered Dear Creatures' Autumn/ Winter Collection already but I just love it so much that I don't feel there's any harm in repeating the gesture.

Not only do I really love the clothes, but the photography is great too as well as the use of the red telephone and vintage suitcases as props. Lovely.

Vintage at Goodwood♥

Gosh it's been a whirlwind the past few weeks which certainly isn't lacking in a few beautiful vintage finds and vintage events.

First off is Vintage at Goodwood. I went on the Friday with my lovely Mother as part of birthday celebrations and it really was a fab day, aside from the HUGE downpour of rain we had part way through the day.

There was lots of cute vintage stalls to have a browse around as well as a 'Vintage Highstreet'. The stalls were great and I picked up some really great bargains throughout the day. The Highstreet was slightly baffling however as it included stores such as John Lewis, Fortnum and Mason and even The Body Shop. These stores, although some are 'vintage' were quite clearly there because they were giving over a large portion of 'sponsorship' money to be there, which is slightly dissatisfying as it would have been nicer to see some smaller companies there.

Also what failed to materialise was Lily Allen's new vintage store, which is a real shame as it was a really emphasised feature of the event in the press.

That's all for now, I will be backtracking and updating on my past events in the next few days. I promise not to neglect this space so much in future!

Now I'm off to spend a lovely day at museums and having afternoon tea with friends, what fun!

world war II nurses and plans for the week...

Although my posts have been few and far between at the moment I honestly have been working :) including dealing with bits and bobs for my etsy shop. I really hope to have it up and running really soon, I'm nearly there with it all!

I'm also super excited about plans for the next few days (well Friday onwards really). It's my birthday on Friday and my Ma and I will be heading off to Vintage at Goodwood. I really can't wait and have been trying to decide what to wear all day, alongside doing uni work of course! I'll keep it a surprise for now. I'm spending Saturday with the boy and then on Sunday a few us are going to All Star Lanes on Brick Lane which is an awesome American Diner which also has a bowling alley. They do amazing milkshakes in there so it should be a giggle.

Sorry, no outfit posts this week, so instead I thought I'd share some of my dissertation research with you. I am currently doing an MA in History and Culture of Fashion and have chosen to research the evolution of nursing uniforms primarily around WW2. I can't share my personal research images unfortunately but here are some that I found online which are pretty cute

This last one is my favourite. I think nursing uniform looks so glamorous, seems such a shame that nurses today just wear pyjama style overalls, though I'm sure they are much more comfortable and practical!

karen elson in dazed & confused

I got Dazed at the weekend. I don't always go for this magazine, but I have to admit, the minute I saw the Karen Elson interview in this issue I was sold...

I especially love this last black lace dress which is Marc by Marc Jacobs.

I'm thinking I need to organise this blog a little better so I shall be working on doing regular posts or maybe regular features. Need to have a brainstorm. I'm also currently working on getting my shop together. The outlet for the shop will probably be through Etsy as they have managed to do currency conversion  up there now, which was my biggest worry as a seller based in the UK. I am also picking up a clothes rail later on today which I'm super excited about. I have vintage coming out my ears and I simply need to get more organised. I also really need a mannequin for dressmaking and the like, if know anyone who's selling one let me know!
